Ai Pelo (also spelled Aipelo) Prison is the ruin of a Portuguese colonial prison dating from the nineteenth century. Its weathered stone walls stand beside the north coast road in Liquiçá municipality, between the mountains and the Wetar Strait, west of Dili. It is a stark reminder of the colonial period and an easy stop on a drive along the coast.
