ASTRABEKA (Ramelau, Blehitu and Kablake Tourism Association) is a community-based tourism association in the central highlands. It is based in Hatubuilico, Ainaro municipality, the village at the foot of Mount Ramelau, Timor-Leste’s highest peak. The association was set up in 2019 with early support from USAID’s Tourism For All project.
What it does
According to the official tourism portal, ASTRABEKA supports:
- Village homestays in the Ramelau area
- Guided village visits and cultural experiences
- Visitors to Mount Ramelau, Blehitu, Kablake and the Maubisse area
It also works with local authorities, church representatives and community leaders to coordinate tourism around Hatubuilico, which is busiest during pilgrimages to the Virgin Mary statue on the summit of Ramelau.
For visitors
If you plan to climb Ramelau, the association is a local point of contact for a guide or homestay in Hatubuilico. Facilities in the village are basic, and nights on the mountain are cold, so arrange your stay in advance.
